[Ferrari]FERRARI 488 GTB: EXTREME POWER FOR EXTREME DRIVING THRILLS

The new V8 debuts at Geneva: track-level performance and responsiveness for the road
-150022_car
Maranello, 3 February 2015 – Forty years on from the unveiling of its first ever mid-rear-engined V8 model, the 308 GTB, the Prancing Horse opens a new chapter in its 8-cylinder history. The Ferrari 488 GTB provides track-level performance that can be enjoyed to the full even by non-professional drivers in everyday use. Its response times, nimbleness and on-the-limit driving guarantee a unique sense of exhilaration and unparalleled driving pleasure.

The new berlinetta brilliantly encapsulates Ferrari’s experience in both F1 and the WEC, where the 458 GT holds the World Championship title and has won its category in the last two editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The new model also exploits to the full the know-how gleaned by Ferrari technicians over the last decade through the XX programme which makes extreme track-only cars available to gentleman test-drivers. The data yielded has made a significant contribution to the refinement of the electronic and vehicle control systems so that drivers can make the most of the incredible performance of this new car.
The Ferrari 488 GTB’s new 3902 cc V8 turbo is at the top of its class for power output, torque and response times, making it the new benchmark for this kind of architecture. The engine unleashes 670 cv at 8,000 rpm along with 760 Nm of maximum torque in seventh gear and a response time to the accelerator of just 0.8 seconds at 2,000 rpm. These figures are sufficient to allow the Ferrari 488 GTB to accelerate from 0-200 km/h in an astonishing 8.3 seconds and, when combined with the radical innovations introduced on all aspects of the car’s performance, lap the Fiorano track in just 1’23”.

[Ferrari]A VICTORY FOR HISTORY

The Ferrari 512 M: the sports prototype faster than the F1
Finali Mondiali Ferrari 2009
Maranello, 28th October – The Ferrari 512 M was the last car Maranello designed for the Sports Prototype World Championship to sport a 5-litre engine.  It was a veritable powerhouse of technology with revolutionary features that, because of a rule change, sadly never fully exploited its enormous potential. The 512 M was an evolution of the 512 S, the car that Enzo Ferrari launched in late 1969 as a rival to the Porsche 917, which was very reliable but also too heavy, 880 kg.
Debut. The Scuderia fielded the 512 M for the final race of the 1970 season, which was also the only official event it would compete in under the Maranello colours. The M, needless to remark, stood for “Modificata” because its weight had been slashed to 815 kg and its engine power boosted to 620 bhp. The bodywork had been redesigned too to improve downforce. The car debuted at the Zeltweg 1000 Kilometres with Belgian Jacky Ickx and Italian Ignazio Giunti at the wheel. The two Ferrari men were dogged by technical woes in qualifying but in the race Ickx managed to deliver times similar to those of the Porsche after only a few laps. In fact, a short time later, he even topped the pole position time he’d clocked with the Ferrari Formula 1 car just a couple of months before.  The Porsches badly struggled for the first time that season and only an alternator breakage deprived the 512 M of a spectacular maiden victory.  Before the end of the year, the car also competed in the 9 Hours of Kyalami, a non-World Championship race that featured the Porsche of newly-crowned World Champion Joseph Siffert. Although packing a one-minute penalty for a false start, the 512 M won the race with an astonishing two laps lead over its rival.
Clipped wings. 1971 should have been the crowning season for the 512 M, but the Federation announced that it was banning cars over 3-litres for 1972. As a result, Ferrari decided to abandon the project and concentrate on designing the highly successful 312 PB.  The 512 M’s only works wins were at Kyalami and in the Interseries at Imola with Arturo Merzario at the wheel. Around 15 were later sold to privateer teams and won a further 12 races. Penske drivers Mark Donohue and David Hobbs came tantalisingly close to victory at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans, and Escuderia Montjuich men Nino Vaccarella and José Juncadella were forced to retire whilst leading at Le Mans in 1971. The 512 M’s final victories came in 1973 courtesy of Swiss driver Herbert Muller and his team in two races at Hockenheim, Germany. The car fielded for the very last time on April 3rd 1977, finishing seventh in the hands of Swiss driver Heinrich Keller at the Paul Ricard circuit.

[Ferrari]CELEBRATING WITH THE F60AMERICA

A new Ferrari to commemorate 60 years in America
-1400398_CAR
Maranello, October 10th 2014. To celebrate Ferrari’s 60th year in North America, Maranello has returned to its 1950s and 60s tradition of producing strictly limited edition, built-to-order cars. The result is the F60America, of which just 10 will be produced. The new car combines our American clients’ two great passions – the V12 engine and open-top driving – and is being unveiled tomorrow evening at an anniversary celebration gala dinner at Beverly Hills City Hall.
The powerful and innovative mid-front-mounted V12 and specific gear ratios underscore the F60America’s wonderfully sporty character. The F60America’s personality is instantly clear from its flanks which are characterised by an innovative diapason design theme.
The front of the car is dominated by the classic Ferrari single front grille with chrome finish and integrated air intakes for the brakes.

The cabin’s asymmetrical design highlights the driver’s area with sporty red trim, while the passenger side is black, inspired by the historic Ferrari competition cars. The cabin trim is exclusive with the dash, tunnel and door panels on the driver’s side all swathed in composite materials. The racing seats also feature a stylised American flag motif on the centre of each seat and backrest.
The F60America’s bodywork adopts the classic North American Racing Team livery, and the special Ferrari 60th anniversary Prancing Horse badge on the wheelarches also appears on the tunnel in the cabin.
The wonderfully elegant and unique F60America has entranced US collectors and all 10 examples are already spoken for.

[Ferrari]FERRARI REMAINS INIMITABLE

From the 458 Speciale A to Alonso: Montezemolo speaks at
-1400393_CAR
Paris

Paris, 2nd October – “Life is always full of lots of surprises but the important thing is to keep learning.”
These were the words with which Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo opened his traditional Paris Motor Show meeting with journalists which was also attended by Prancing Horse CEO Amedeo Felisa and FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne.
Montezemolo then turned to the brand-new 458 Speciale A, emphasising that it is the most high-performance spider in Ferrari history, combines leading-edge technology with meticulous artisanal attention to detail and is a limited edition special series of just 499. He also spoke about a year that will prove “unprecedented” in terms of financial performance, thanks to a trading profit of 400 million euro and a net financial position of 1.5 billion.
There were, of course, questions on the Formula 1 front, most specifically on relations with Alonso, to which Mr Montezemolo responded: “Fernando is an incredibly strong driver who has given a huge amount to Ferrari in recent years. I have spoken with the Team Principal Marco Mattiacci and told him to discuss things with him. I feel it is important that Ferrari and Alonso talk to confirm their mutual respect and friendship.”
Sticking with the subject of Formula 1, Montezemolo continued: “I have heard talk of a third car being introduced because two or three teams might be forced to quit. I’ve been pushing the whole third car idea for years now. Even if the sport opts for this solution out of a sense of urgency rather than because it was actually planned, I would still find it a positive development.”
When asked how he imagines Ferrari in five years’ time, Montezemolo answered: “I imagine Ferrari will be different, just as the Ferrari of today is different from the Ferrari of five or 10 years ago. But I am sure that it will still have the characteristics that make it unique in its DNA.”
At the end of the meeting, Montezemolo said a personal goodbye to each of the journalists individually, and posed for photographs with many of them also.

[Ferrari]FERRARI STEALS THE SHOW AT PARIS

From the new 458 Speciale A to CarPlay and Tailor Made style
-1400387_CAR
Paris, October 2nd 2014 – The new 458 Speciale A, just unveiled by Chairman Luca di Montezemolo at the Mondial de l’Automobile 2014  in Paris, instantly became the star of the show. A limited edition special series of just 499, it is the most powerful Ferrari spider ever built, thanks to an unprecedented V8 engine and active aerodynamics. It sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds and its retractable hard top deploys and retracts in a mere 14 seconds. The 458 Speciale A makes its debut in a triple-layer Modena yellow livery with central Blu NART and Bianco Avus stripe.
However, it is far from the only motoring gem that Maranello has brought along to the Paris Show.
On the technology front, the Ferrari California T on the stand is equipped with CarPlay, the innovative Apple system that integrates with the car’s own infotainment set-up to provide instant and intuitive voice and touch functionalities: everything from phone calls to map use, messaging to playing music.

This extends the Apple system’s incorporation into the Ferrari range which began with the FF, the first car in the world to offer CarPlay.
Also on the Paris stand is an upgraded Tailor Made atelier which makes available the exclusive personalisation programme that allows owners to create their own bespoke car. It plays host to an FF in Grigio Abu Dhabi with details in the historic Grigio Ferro Met. The car’s cabin also features luxury materials, such as buttery-soft Frau “Soul Aretha” leather and elegant “Solaro”, a slightly iridescent tailoring fabric. Meticulous care has been lavished on the choice and execution of every one of the many original details aboard, from teak and ash trim accents in the cabin to the lining of the boot in woven leather and textile.
The new 458 Speciale A will be flanked on the stand by the rest of the current range with liveries, colours and details selected to represent the very best of Ferrari tradition and exclusivity Ferrari.

[Ferrari]FERRARI 458 SPECIALE A: A NEW RECORD-BREAKING SPIDER

499 cars to celebrate our most successful, award-winning 8-cylinder model
-1400379_CAR
Maranello, 25th September 2014 – Ferrari is pleased to announce the Paris Motor Show world debut of the 458 Speciale A (A as in Aperta). The new limited edition special series is a celebration of the dazzling success of the various versions of the 458, a model that has collected an array of international motoring media awards and track victories, not least a double WEC title and category wins in classic endurance races, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Dedicated to just 499 Ferrari collectors, the 458 Speciale A is the most powerful spider in Prancing Horse history, effortlessly marrying extreme performance with the sublime pleasure of drop-top driving. Its aluminium retractable hard top, which takes a mere 14 seconds to deploy or retract, helps reduce the weight difference with the Speciale coupé to just 50 kg.

The 458 Speciale A sports the most powerful naturally-aspirated road-going V8 engine ever built by Ferrari. It punches out a massive 605 cv (135 cv/l specific power output) and 540 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm yet only generates 275 g/km of CO2 emissions. The three international Best Performance Engine awards the V8 has won are acknowledged on a special plaque in the cockpit.

[Ferrari]A SPECIAL DAY BUT OBJECTIVES REMAIN THE SAME

Maranello, 10 September
-140241_new1
It was a special day for Scuderia Ferrari, as indeed it was for the entire company and for the fans and followers of the Prancing Horse. On the day that President Luca di Montezemolo announced his resignation, the staff of the Formula 1 team were hard at work, preparing for next week’s Singapore race, aware that, at a joint press conference held today, both Montezemolo and the CEO of the FCA, Sergio Marchionne stated the same objective, namely to start winning again.
Both men underlined that the medium and long term goals remain unchanged: to return to being competitive on track and to try and establish a new winning era. The President stated that, “in the company we have the framework, the means and the personnel to get back on top and I am convinced that it won’t be long before we are once again the benchmark team.” For his part, Marchionne added, “winning is essential for Ferrari and I have no doubt we are capable of doing that. We will do all it takes, also in terms of our resources, to reach this objective.”
