[Trofeo Maserati]Zumerle is the New Championship Leader

The sixth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC, held in Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit this weekend yields the leadership of the drivers’ classification to Pietro Zumerle, who reached second place in race 1 and won race 2.

Valencia (E), 19 September 2010 – The sixth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC, held in Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit this weekend yields the leadership of the drivers’ classification to Pietro Zumerle, who reached second place in race 1 and won race 2. The Veronese driver will thus have a three-point advantage over the Goldstein/Sundberg pair in the last championship round, scheduled on 10 October in the Mugello, Italy, circuit.

So in the end it was not enough for Sundberg to tally up his fourth victory of the season in race 1 —right in front of Zumerle and Sergio Rota— to defend the classification position the pair had held since the round at Zolder. Sundberg’s team-mate, Steven Goldstein, had to be content with a fifth place (and sixth overall) in the second race. He was unable to take advantage of Ardagna Perez’s and Sergio Rota’s exit; the Venezuelan driver was out after a collision with the Italian and the latter was slowed down by a problem with a tire and then penalized with a drive-through. Paolo Necchi came in second in race 2; he consolidates his third place in the standings thanks to this result. Stefano Gai was third under the checkered flag. Gai, who was racing with a GT4, is now celebrating another double victory in the category (two successes, just like at the first round in Monza). Francesco Maggi rounds up the podium trio for the Trofeos, thus straightening up a weekend that had started out a bit askew.

[Trofeo Maserati]The Sixth Round of the Trofeo Maserati will be in Spain

The Spanish round in Valencia can hardly decide the name or names of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC winners.
Modena (I), 15 September 2010
valencia
The Spanish round in Valencia can hardly decide the name or names of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC winners. Now at the sixth round of the Maserati championship, a lot of things can still happen. Despite a positive result for the leading duo of Goldstein/Sundberg in Oschersleben, their advantage over their closest rival is slight: 66 points against Zumerle’s 62.

It will probably all be decided in the last round on 10 October in Mugello, Italy. There’s an intense battle for third place between Paolo Necchi (with 50 points; he was one of the winners in Germany), Sergio Rota (47 points), Venezuelan Gaetano Ardagna Pérez (43) and Emanuele Smurra (41). These will certainly be four exciting races where drivers will fight until the last turn. And it’s not unlikely that some other driver may come into the picture among the contenders to the cup.
Meanwhile, Sicart will defend his top role in the GT4 classification.

[Trofeo Maserati]A Triumphant Brno for Zumerle

The game is on after the fourth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC held this weekend in Brno, Czech Republic.
trofeo-brno
Brno (CZ), 1 August 2010 – The game is on after the fourth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC held this weekend in Brno, Czech Republic.
Thanks to his two victories, Pietro Zumerle raises his points to 48, only one point away from the leading duo, Goldstein and Sundberg. They end the round with the only pole point in the qualifying races.

In the first race Zumerle took advantage of Peter Sundberg’s exit from the scene. Zumerle was disqualified from the race because he failed to return to the pit lane for a penalty drive-through caused by a false start. Second place was taken up by Paolo Necchi. Sergio Rota got third, threatened towards the end by the return of Emanuele Smurra (who came in fifth).

The Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC, the new single-make championship from the makers of the Trident-logo racecars, is composed of seven rounds on some of the most prestigious European circuits and will start off at the Monza racetrack this weekend, concluding in Mugello on October 10th.

Many of the drivers who have entered the championship - from various European countries as well as from Israel - have already had the chance to familiarize themselves with the cars (derived from the series-production GranTurismo S) during the group tests held last April on the 24th and 25th in Vallelunga.

[Trofeo Maserati]Pre-championship test and race simulation for Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo

The Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC turns on the ignition with the pre-championship test held this weekend in Vallelunga, a prep for the first practices in Monza on 23 May.

A long-run simulation was done to make the final checks of the cars assigned to signed-up drivers. Some of them went to the Roman circuit to get their first feel of the cars they will be driving the entire season. One of the protagonist of the test has been Emanuele Smurra, the winner of the first Trofeo Maserati held in 2003. Over 16 drivers from various European countries also participated.
The GranTurismo MC Trofeo is adapted from the GranTurismo S, a headliner in the market of deluxe coupés. Just like the street version, this racing model was built on an assembly line in the famous factory in Viale Ciro Menotti, in Modena.
The Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC consists of seven rounds in the most prestigious European circuits, held concurrently with the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) and in the last round, concurrently with the Italian F.3 Championship.
The series debuts in Monza (I) on 23 May, followed by the rounds in Zolder (B) - 20 June, Brands Hatch (GB) - 18 July, Brno (CZ) - 1 August, Oschersleben (D) - 5 September, Valencia (E) -19 September and the concluding round in Mugello (I) on 10 October.
In addition to the GranTurismo MC Trofeo run directly by Maserati Corse, GranTurismo MC GT4 purchased by private teams may also participate in the championship. These will race in a separate classification from the Trofeo cars.

[Trofeo Maserati]2006 » Maserati Trofeo Europe » Valencia - Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europa - Maurizio Fabris takes the title; Cerrai the race

The seventh and last round of the 2006 Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europa series was run today - Sunday 8 October - at the Spanish circuit of Valencia. In the end it was Maurizio Fabris to emerge victorious and so claim the fourth title awarded in the spectacular single-make championship.

Previous winners have been Emanuele Smurra (2003), Andrea Palma (2004) and Alberto Cerrai (2005). Cerrai also played a major role this time around and battled for the crown with Fabris until the very last race. Cerrai triumphed over the new champion and the quick, young pairing of Niccolò Oddi and Giacomo Ricci. Cerrai can take consolation from having won the most races, five out of seven: Monza, Silverstone, Spa, Mugello and Valencia. Fabris was consistent throughout the season and scored two wins (Brno and Oschersleben) and four second places (Monza, Silverstone, Spa and Valencia) that were enough to give him the title by two points.

The two young Trofeo Maserati drivers, Oddi and Ricci, thanks to their third place in Valencia, took third and fourth, respectively, overall.
