Pre-championship test and race simulation for Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo
25/04/2010 - Modena
A long-run simulation was done to make the final checks of the cars assigned to signed-up drivers. Some of them went to the Roman circuit to get their first feel of the cars they will be driving the entire season. One of the protagonist of the test has been Emanuele Smurra, the winner of the first Trofeo Maserati held in 2003. Over 16 drivers from various European countries also participated.
The GranTurismo MC Trofeo is adapted from the GranTurismo S, a headliner in the market of deluxe coupés. Just like the street version, this racing model was built on an assembly line in the famous factory in Viale Ciro Menotti, in Modena. The Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC consists of seven rounds in the most prestigious European circuits, held concurrently with the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) and in the last round, concurrently with the Italian F.3 Championship.
The series debuts in Monza (I) on 23 May, followed by the rounds in Zolder (B) - 20 June, Brands Hatch (GB) - 18 July, Brno (CZ) - 1 August, Oschersleben (D) - 5 September, Valencia (E) -19 September and the concluding round in Mugello (I) on 10 October.
In addition to the GranTurismo MC Trofeo run directly by Maserati Corse, GranTurismo MC GT4 purchased by private teams may also participate in the championship. These will race in a separate classification from the Trofeo cars.
This is the formula: two 40-minute-long free practice sessions on Friday, two 20-minute-long qualifying sessions on Saturday and two races (38-minutes long + 1 turn) on Sunday. Participating in the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC costs 162,000 Euro + VAT for the entire season (168,000 Euro + VAT should a two-driver team share the driving) while the owners of GranTurismo GT4s may enter the race for 45,000 Euro + VAT.
At each Trofeo round, Maserati will organize a series of events for its customers or prospective customers. During the Vallelunga testing session, potential customers were given the chance to try out the entire Maserati range at the track, while on Sunday there was a practice session open for all owners of Maseratis who wished to try out the track with their cars. At Monza there will also be marketing and sales activities to promote the brand and the product range. It will be in perfect harmony and synergy with the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC's philosophy, a series for gentlemen drivers who wish to race with a car derived from the one they drive every day.
The first round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC will be held on 23 May in Monza.
