It’s game on in Misano, as Malucelli, Rocca and Belluzzi are fastest in free practice

Misano Adriatico (Rimini,) 8 July

Today saw the start of the third round of the Italian Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli at the Misano circuit. Drivers at this special round tackled a busy sixty minutes of free practice, in which the fastest time went to Matteo Malucelli from Forli, who in his Motor Malucelli prepared 458 Italia stopped the clocks in 1.40.712. Next up was current series leader, Stefano Gai (Rossocorsa) who did a 1.40.954, while third placed was Lorenzo Bontempelli (Kessel Racing) in 1.42.411.

Matteo Malucelli has several Ferrari Challenge wins to his name and also has experience of racing in the main GT championships. Tomorrow he will have to fend off the multiple champion Stefano Gai, who took the title in the main category of the Trofeo Pirelli in 2010, so it’s bound to be a tight fight between these two in their battle for the lead in the classification.

Among the gentleman drivers in the Coppa Shell, Tommaso Rocca (Rossocorsa Pellin) was fastest, fourth overall behind Bontempelli in 1.42.412, while of those racing the F430, the best time went to the San Marino crew of Andrea Belluzzi-Bruno Bollini in 1.45.109.

Tomorrow sees two qualifying sessions at 10.50 and 15.30 to decide the grids for the two races that run on Sunday at 10.35 and 14.25.
