Italian GP – A learning session

McLaren came out on top at the end of the first practice session for the Italian Grand Prix, the thirteenth round of the Formula 1 World Championship. Lewis Hamilton was quickest in 1.23.865 ahead of team-mate Jenson Button (1.24.786) with Sebastian Vettel third for Red Bull in 1.25.231. Fernando Alonso was seventh in 1.26.647, while his Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa was right behind him in eighth place (1.26.676.) The Spaniard suffered a cut to his left rear tyre which meant his session ended around ten minutes ahead of schedule. As usual on a Friday, lap times were not the main concern as the programme centred on a comparison of various aerodynamic configurations and an evaluation of the Medium tyre. The second session gets underway as usual at 14.00.
