The new North America Ferrari Challenge series gets underway at St. Petersburg

This weekend the St. Petersburg street circuit in Florida sees the return of the North American series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, as it embarks on its nineteenth season. Also on the eight round calendar this season are two Ferrari Racing Days at Infineon on 27-29 April and Laguna Seca from 18 to 20 May and a special round in Montreal, on the same card as the Canadian F1 Grand Prix, from 8 to 10 June.
Since 2001, the series has run alongside the prestigious Grand Am series for which this year, Ferrari has especially developed a car that made its debut at the curtain raising Daytona 24 Hours. The partnership continues this year offering a spring board for drivers looking for a future as professional racers, as was the case for Enzo Potolicchio, the Venezuelan who won the last eight editions of the Ferrari one-make series and today is successfully taking part in the American series. Another old friend of the Ferrari Challenge North America is Jeff Segal from Philadelphia who, in 2003, when only 17 became the youngest champion in the Stars and Stripes series and today races in both the Grand Am and ALMS series at the wheel of cars from the Maranello marque.
The St Petersburg weekend will no less than 23 drivers on track and, as from today they tackle the first free practice sessions and qualifying, prior to the two races on Saturday at 11.25 and Sunday at 15.45.
