Ferrari features at Monza in the Blancpain Endurance Series Pole for Kessel Racing with Rigon-Gattuso-Zampieri

The second edition of the Blancpain Endurance Series is getting under way this weekend with the first round at Monza. This is the championship organised by the SRO which was already very hard-fought in 2011 and now features a total of 55 GT3 cars run by nine teams. The series calendar is divided into six rounds that will take place at prestigious European circuits Monza, Silverstone, Paul Ricard, Spa-Francorchamps, Nurburgring and Navarra.
Among the teams taking part in the event with its Ferrari 458 GT3 is Kessel Racing, which immediately stood out in today’s qualifying session. It took pole position with the best time of 1.47.923 thanks to its featured team in the PRO category, made up of the trio of Italian drivers Stefano Gattuso-Daniel Zampieri-Davide Rigon. For Rigon, who works for the Scuderia Ferrari in sporting activities linked to development of the cars, this marks a real return to competitive action after his accident at the first GP2 race in Turkey in 2011.
The world of closed-wheel racing had already given the Venice-based driver plenty of good results in the past. His best outing came in 2008 at the wheel of the Ferrari of BMS Scuderia Italia in the FIA GT championship when he took victory in the Spa-Francorchamps 24-Hour Race.
Of the two 458 cars run by Kessel in the PRO AM class, where just one professional driver is allowed in each team, one stood out in attracting the attention of the media and the spectators. That wasn’t just because of its original livery but because it was in the hands of Valentino Rossi and his friend Uccio Salucci. Thanks to the second best time in Q2 (1.48.962) which was secured by the multiple two-wheel world champion, the team will start tomorrow’s race from 10th place on the grid.
Among the entrants it was impossible to avoid the AF Corse team which completes the Blancpain Endurance Series line-up with Andrea Bertolini. The Modena-based driver, who also races for the Italian team in the FIA World Endurance Championship, ran alongside Nick Hommerson and Louis Machiels in the PRO AM class. The other teams are made up of Gaetano Ardagna-Giuseppe Cirò-Daniel Brown, Jack Gerber-Marco Cioci and Yannick Mallegol-Jean Marc Bachelier-Howard Blank.
The race, which will last for three hours, gets under way officially at 12.15 tomorrow.
