Red Passion at Mugello

They turned up in their thousands today at the Mugello circuit for the Ferrari Passion Day, the event which first took place in 2010 and is aimed at fans of the Maranello Scuderia, giving them the chance to meet people from the team.
Taking part in the event were members of the Scuderia Ferrari Club and the Scuderia Ferrari Community, united under the Prancing Horse banner in a day of activities that included various challenges, at the wheel of go-karts, attempting a pit-stop simulation and getting to grips with the Virtual Academy’s simulator. There was also a thrilling soapbox competition featuring these incredible gravity-powered vehicles built entirely by club members.
The Club that had the longest journey to reach the track in Tuscany, travelled over 1200 kilometres from the town of Genk in Belgium, while of the Community members present, Alberto Perez had the longest trip, having come from Seville. Emerging victorious in the karting was the division from the Marche region, while setting the fastest time in the pit-stops were the twenty people making up the team from Abbiategrasso (Milan.)

Cataldo Malena came out on top in the Virtual Academy simulator and, of those taking part in the soapbox race, victory fell to the historic Cernusco sul Naviglio (MI) Club. Handing out the prizes to the winners were the drivers who are available to Scuderia Ferrari for sporting and commercial duties, Jules Bianchi, Giancarlo Fisichella, Marc Gené, Andrea Bertolini and Davide Rigon, who were joined by Fernando Alonso in the main grandstand for the obligatory souvenir photo.
The Spanish driver received an incredibly warm welcome and from tomorrow, he will be in action on the Tuscan track, for the fourth and final test session planned on the Formula 1 calendar for this season. Interviewed for the Ferrari fans who packed the grandstands, Fernando described himself as a fighter in this particularly difficult first part of the season. “The Championship is proving to be a real battle, but even if it’s tough, the aim is still to win. Every sportsman has a strong spirit of competition within him, which means you can never give up, while the work of everyone around you is also an important stimulus, an obligation to always give 100%. Having replied to a few enquiries relating to tyres, culinary tastes and possible predictions for the end of the season and before bidding farewell to the fans, Fernando described Ferrari as something very close to him, especially on an emotional level. “When one spends so much time with them, the team becomes your family and I feel right at home here. And that’s nice, because we don’t just work together, we spend a lot of our free time together and without that, then a very important incentive would be lacking.”
