GT Open – Ferrari on top at the Nurburgring

The second round of the International GT Open championship took place this weekend in the spectacular setting of the Nurburgring and the event ended in Ferrari mode with the privately entered 458s took the top spots in both legs. In Race 1, AF Corse took the win, setting the pace right from qualifying with the Ferrari crewed by Gianmaria Bruni and Federica Leo, who drove a solitary race, crossing the line with a lead of over 47 seconds on the Aston Martin Vantage entered by Villois Racing and the IMSA Performance Porsche. In the GTS class, it was the third step on the podium for the Kessel Racing Ferrari. After a poor showing in Race 1 after a collision with Philip Peter (Kessel Racing) at the start, the Villorba team Ferrari took the win in Race 2, followed by Peter-Broniszewski (Ferrari Kessel Racing) and Giammaria-Ramos (Ferrari Black Team) thus completing a fantastic Ferrari triple. Race 1 winners Bruni and Leo (AF Corse,) did not have much luck, forced to retire after a collision with the Holzer-Tandy Porsche Manthey car in the early stages. In GTS there was a third place for the AF Corse Ferrari, in the hands of Bizzarri-Rizzoli.
The third round of the season takes place on 23-24 June at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
