FIA GT - Vilander and Salaquarda shine for Ferrari at the Slovakia Ring

Maranello, 10 June

After a far from straightforward start to the year, Ferrari returned to a starring role in the FIA GT1 World Championship thanks to the AF Corse team’s win in yesterday’s qualifying race at the Slovakia Ring, the fourth round of the championship. This success was almost unexpected given that the championship regulations work against the Maranello company’s cars because of the “balance of perfomance” which imposes a greater ballast on the Ferraris than its opponents. Nonetheless Race 1 confirmed the strength of the team made up of Toni Vilander and Filip Salaquarda. In the AF Corse Ferrari 458 GT3, they dominated the race despite difficult conditions which made the outcome of the race far from certain. There were also important points taken at the end of the Championship Race, courtesy of the fourth place by the same Vilander-Salaquarda duo. The second Ferrari run by the Italian team was less fortunate, finishing 12th in the Qualifying Race thanks to off-track excursions for each of the two drivers. They took 9th place in the Championship Race.

The next date for the FIA GT1 World Championship is scheduled for the weekend of 6-8 July at the circuit in Portugal’s Algarve.
