European GP – Positive Friday of testing

Valencia, 22 June

Things were looking good for Scuderia Ferrari at the end of the second session of free practice. The team completed its planned programme of work for both drivers without problems ahead of Sunday’s European Grand Prix at the circuit in Valencia. The F2012 completed a total of 115 laps (60 for Alonso and 55 for Massa), largely aimed at evaluating different aerodynamic solutions and the two compounds of tyres – Soft and Medium – on offer from Pirelli for the third successive street circuit of the season. Both Ferrari drivers continued checking the updates introduced in the morning free practice session, concentrating on set-up of the car for long runs. At the end of the session the best time was set by Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull with 1.39.334, followed by Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) and Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber) who completed the top three with 1.39.465 and 1.39.595 respectively. The Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa recorded the seventh (1.39.733) and 15th (1.40.244) fastest times.

The third and final session of free practice will take place tomorrow at 11am.
