Belgian GP - Rain of course

The first free practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the Formula 1 World Championship was run in an almost constant heavy downpour. The Spa-Francorchamps circuit lived up to its reputation in terms of rain, which started to fall last night and again in time for the start of the session. The two Ferrari men completed an installation lap and waited for conditions to improve shortly before the end to tackle the usual practice start off the grid. Fernando Alonso posted the 22nd fastest time in his Ferrari in 2.40.749, while topping the time sheet was Japan’s Kamui Kobayashi in the Sauber (2.11.389,) followed by Pastor Maldonaldo (2.11.941) for Williams and the Toro Rosso of Daniel Ricciardo (2.12.004.) In the other F2012, Felipe Massa failed to set a time, as he had to make his way back to the pits on foot, because of an engine problem at the final corner.
