The Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific comes to Malaysia

After rounds in China and Japan, the cars competing in the Asia Pacific series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli were back in action today at Sepang, Malaysia for the fourth round of the season. It is being run alongside the Merdeka Millenium Endurance race, the most important event of its kind in Asia.

The series, which began in 2011, sees over 30 drivers of various nationalities taking part and confirms the growing interest in the championship on a track designed to provide both speed and spectacle.

Today saw two rounds of free practice, while tomorrow features the same number of qualifying sessions to decide the grids for the two races to be run on Sunday at 11.00 and 15.05.

In the first session, the best time in the Coppa Shell was set by China’s Jie Shi (2.13.949), followed by the Singaporean Ringo Chong (2.14.819) and France’s Alain Li (2.15.213), both running in the Trofeo Pirelli. In the second free practice session, quickest was Italy’s Philippe Prette (2.14.516) followed by the Japanese driver Hisao Shigeta (2.14.715) and from Hong Kong, Alex Au (2.14.882), first of the Coppa Shell runners.
