Ferrari Racing Days at Silverstone Caso and Cioci win Trofeo Pirelli Basov on top in Coppa Shell

Today saw the Ferrari Racing Days come to an end at Silverstone circuit, the event dedicated to owners and fans of the marque, featuring on track action for all the main activities of the Maranello company’s Corse Clienti department. A crowd of over 25,000 watched historic Formula 1 cars lap the track in untimed sessions, as well as owners of the extreme sports cars aimed at track use, which make up the XX programmes.
Yesterday, Felipe Massa led an amazing parade of a record 964 Ferraris and today’s highlight was a demonstration run by Marc Gene, at the wheel of the car with which Scuderia Ferrari competed in the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship.
On the racing front, the European Ferrari Challenge series produced some exciting close fought racing all the way to the chequered flag. Unfortunately, there was a serious accident in the second Coppa Shell race, which involved Giorgio Raffaeli and the Kessel Racing driver was taken to hospital in Oxford for checks.
In Race 1 of the Trofeo Pirelli, the win went to Dario Caso (CDP) ahead of Andrii Kruglyk (Ferrari Ukraina) and Patrick Gobbo (Rossocorsa/Pellin) the latter winning the Coppa Giovani for the Under 22s. In Race 2, victory went to Marco Cioci, on this occasion driving for Motor/Piacenza, after ably fighting off the continuous attentions of expert drivers such as Max Blancardi (Motor/Malucelli) and Stefano Gai (Ferrari Moscow) who with vast experience in the Ferrari one-make series gave the evential winner a lot to think about throughout the thirty minute race. Of those competing for the Giovani honours, Englishman Alexander Martin (Stratstone Ferrari) drove brilliantly as befits a racer on home turf.
There was a double win in the Coppa Shell for Alexey Basov (Ferrari Moscow) who had dominated yesterday’s qualifying before going on to confirm that potential, beating in the first race Raffaele Giannoni (Motor/Piacenza) and Fernando Baiz (Rossocorsa). In Race 2 the hard charging Russian crossed the line followed by two drivers from the Motor/Piacenza team, Francisco Guedes and Giannoni. The laurels for the Coppa Gentleman went, in both legs to Kessel Racing’s Fons Scheltema.
The next round of the European Ferrari Challenge takes place at Vallelunga over the weekend of 8 October, for the penultimate round, prior to the Finali Mondiali in Valencia.
