MONACO GP – FERNANDO JUST OFF THE PODIUM, MISFORTUNE FOR KIMI

Disappointment for Scuderia Ferrari in Monaco, with Fernando Alonso finishing fourth while Kimi Raikkonen, having been third for a long time, failed to finish in the points. For the second consecutive year, Nico Rosberg won the race for Mercedes, his fifth career victory, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton second and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo third. Kimi got a great start, which took him from sixth to fourth and when, shortly afterwards, Sebastian Vettel retired he was promoted to third. While the Safety Car was out, the backmarkers were cleared to un-lap themselves and Marussia’s Max Chilton hit Raikkonen, who then pitted and changed tyres. The Finn rejoined in 13th and eventually climbed up to eighth, but with a few laps to go, he attacked Magnussen at the hairpin, damaging his front wing, which called for another pit stop. He thus dropped down to 12th. Worth noting that, in the Ferrari-powered Marussia, Jules Bianchi scored his and the team’s first F1 points by finishing ninth. Next round in Canada on 8 June.
